Mom-in-law slaps dowry case

Patna, Sept. 6: Rani Archana Singh’s mother yesterday lodged a dowry death complaint against her son-in-law and nine members of his family, in the court of Patna chief judicial magistrate.

With the complaint, the missing case has been completely turned around, as earlier Rani Archana’s family was reluctant to “blame” son-in-law, Rajiv. So far, the court has asked the Patna police to get the case investigated by Gandhi Maidan police. Yesterday, Archana’s mother Malti Prasad alleged that she had “no faith” in her son-in-law. “We fear Archana was killed for dowry. Taking her out on honeymoon was just an excuse.” Archana is the daughter of Banka additional judicial magistrate S.C. Prasad. Archana and Rajiv were married this April.

“Archana’s family has been working in haste. We have never asked for any dowry from Archana and cannot imagine doing so or of harming her,” said Rajiv’s father, Rajdev Singh.

A stunned Rajiv believes that the truth would be revealed during investigation. “I am more concerned about Archana than they are,” he added. Earlier, Rajiv, a probationer railway engineer, had announced a cash award of Rs 1 lakh to anyone who gave an idea of his missing wife. Archana went missing from the train, while returning with husband Rajiv from New Jalpaiguri on August14.

Meanwhile, the Gandhi Maidan police have not received the court order as yet. For now, Mokama railway police have been investigating the matter.

Several raids were conducted at Barh by police, but without any success.
