Gyanendra loses more palaces

Kathmandu, Aug. 26: Nepal’s multi-party government today decided to nationalise five more palaces and eight forests owned by deposed monarch King Gyanendra and his family.

Sources said a committee, headed by home minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, recommended the nationalisation of Diyalo palace in Chitwan, Ratna Mandir palace in Pokhara, Gokarna and Nagarjun palaces, both in Kathmandu, and Kanti Ishwori palace in Hetauda.

The ministerial-level committee also asked the government to register eight forests in the name of government of Nepal.

Three days ago, the government decided to nationalise the Narayanhiti palace, where Gyanendra lived, along with six other palaces as well as 1,533 bighas owned by the royal family.
