Kherdeker stays on top

Overnight joint leader Sourabh Kherdeker took sole lead with seven points after Round VIII of the WBCA Fide-rated chess tournament at the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra. Sourabh defeated Somak Palit on Saturday.

Five players, including another overnight joint leader Abhisek Das, were in second spot with 6.5 points each.

BMSC meeting

Kunal Banerjee was elected secretary general of Bengal Motor Sports Club (BMSC) for 2007-08 at the club’s annual general meeting on Saturday.

Rajat Majumdar was reelected president.
