Colleges on prowl for ‘black’ vehicles

Jamshedpur, Aug. 23: Concerned over the recent abduction of a female student in Ranchi, Jamshedpur-based women’s colleges have decided to impose a ban on cars with dark films outside campus.

The authorities of two colleges — Jamshedpur Women’s College and Graduate School and College for Women have also geared up to create awareness among students.

“Students have been asked to identify the cars with dark films and report to the college administration so that we can report the same to the local administration for necessary action,” said Shukla Mohanty, principal of Jamshedpur Women’s College. The college is also planning to take out a rally in this regard.

Similarly, authorities of Graduate School and College for Women have decided to monitor the movement of vehicles outside the campus. “The security guards have been directed to note down registration numbers,” said an official the college. Sources said that Jamshedpur Workers’ College and Jamshedpur Co-operative College are also thinking on similar lines.

Meanwhile, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) has decided to extend support to the colleges. “We will launch a statewide initiative and assist the local administration to identify and remove dark films from cars,” said Parvinder Singh, state president of NSUI. They will also write to the Governor and university officials.
