Sharp showers on Monday afternoon yet again left several pockets of Calcutta under water. The areas worst affected were the southern and eastern parts of the city. There was knee-deep water in Bhowanipore, Hazra, Mominpore, Garcha Road, Mandeville Gardens, Dhakuria, Picnic Garden Road, Topsia and Golf Green after 79.6 mm of rain in 24 hours till 5.30pm on Monday. The Met office said it was normal monsoon rain. “Yesterday’s low pressure over the Bengal coast has moved to Chhattisgarh and has weakened. There is little chance of heavy rain over Gangetic Bengal in the next 48 hours. However, there will be normal monsoon showers,” said G.C.
