Mizo unions seek to end border row

Guwahati, Aug. 11: Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), an influential students’ organisation of Mizoram, has called for third party intervention for a peaceful solution to the border dispute between Assam and the state.

P.C. Laltlansanga, president of the organisation, told mediapersons here today that the third party could be the Supreme Court, a judicial commission or a boundary commission, which would help to find a permanent solution to the border dispute between the two northeastern states.

Laltlansanga said frequent tension along Mizoram’s border with Assam’s Cachar and Hailakandi districts has become a major cause of concern for people on either side of the border.

A delegation of the organisation, led by Laltlansanga, met Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi yesterday and submitted a memorandum.
