Steel output feat

New Delhi, Aug. 7: India has become the world’s fifth-largest crude steel producer. “Based on the revised data for crude steel, calculations for the calendar year 2006 show that India achieved a production of 49.45 million tonnes during the year. This makes the country the fifth-largest global crude steel producer,” an official statement said today.

Sasan project

New Delhi, Aug. 7: The Sasan power plant is ready to take off with state-run Power Finance Corporation today, transferring the 4,000mw project to Anil Ambani group firm Reliance Power.

SABMiller

New Delhi, Aug. 7: SABMiller has created separate and independent management units for Asian and African business regions. The Asia hub office is in Hong Kong.

Imports rise

New Delhi, Aug. 7: India’s import of sensitive items went up 11.6 per cent in the first quarter to Rs 4,877 crore from Rs 4,371 crore in the same period last year, led by a sharp rise in the import of edible oils.

Gas price

New Delhi, Aug. 7: The Supreme Court today extended a stay granted by Gujarat High Court on a government directive to pool prices of imported LNG to keep the generation cost from the Dabhol power plant low.
