Police drub Cosmos

Imphal, July 27: Manipur Police Sports Club today clinched the winners title of the 1st Manipur State Hockey League, beating Cosmopolitan by a 6-1 margin at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium.

While S. Tarun drew first blood for his team in the eighth minute, M. Mirple and P. Priyokumar scored one each in the 10th and 11th minutes. Cosmopolitan’s R.K. Bikr-amjit scored his team’s lone goal in the 26th minute of the first half. Khurai MLA, Ng. Bijoy Singh and head of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Ch. Manglem Singh, gave away the prizes.

The victory made Manipur Police Sports Club richer by Rs 5,000. Cosmopolitan were declared runners-up. They got Rs 3,000. SAI RC, who finished third in the league table, got Rs 2,000 along with certificates.

The Man of Manipur State League Hockey award was bagged by Th. Birjit while the Best Promising Player award went to L. Leejon Singh of Hockey Union. They got Rs 1,000 each.

The Second Division Hockey League, 2007 organised by Manipur Hockey Association, will begin on August 1 at Khuman Lampak Stadium.

Manipur Police Sports Club, Cosmopolitan, SAI RC, Hockey Union, Posterior Hockey Academy, Manipur and South Eastern Youth Organisation have made it to the Super Six Challenge Cup 2007.
