Plea to track down woman

Jaigaon, July 22: A group of more than 10 women today urged police to expedite investigation into the mysterious disappearance of a Bhutanese woman two months ago.

Deserted by her husband, 35-year-old Mala Wati used to live in a rented house at Keokotatol in the Jaigaon police station area with her mother Birmaya Dorji, a son and a daughter. She used to work in Rinchen Supply Agency in Phuentsholing. Many Bhutanese families stay here in rented houses because of low cost of living

“On June 6, my daughter called up a person and left the home stating that she was going to Thimpu and would return within a week. From that day there is no trace of her,” said 85-year-old Dorji.

Dorji said she had lodged a missing person’s diary with the Jaigaon police on June 29 and filed an FIR on July 2.

Mala’s daughter Sabitri Mothe is a Class VIII student in Phuentsholing Middle Secondary School and son Arjun is studying in a lower school there.

“It has become too difficult for me to run the family with two school-going children. My daughter used to draw Rs 3,500 from the company. Now, we are virtually starving,” Dorji said

Officer-in-charge of the Jaigaon police station Achintya Gupta, whom the women’s group met today, said “We are trying our best to trace her. All the adjoining police stations have been alerted,” he said.
