Jorhat boys bite Charaideo dust

Nagaon, July 18: Charaideo trounced Jorhat 6-1, Tezpur defeated Bokakhat 3-1, Hailakandi blanked Karbi Anglong 5-0 and Biswanath Chariali blanked Titabor 4-0 in four matches of the 44th junior inter-district football championship for the Santosh Lahkar Trophy at Kaliabor today.

In the first match between Charaideo and Jorhat at Kaliabor College playground, the Charaideo team performed very well.

Strong defence and understanding among the pla-yers pushed the team into scoring six goals — four in the first half and two in the second.

Striker Janab Deuri scored the first two goals for Charaideo in the sixth and 30th minutes.

In the 16th minute, Jorhat striker Debananda Araydha tried his best to score a goal through a free kick, but the Charaideo defence made it a futile attempt.

Charaideo’s Aftab Hussain and Montu Majumdar scored the last two goals of the first half in the 31st and 38th minutes of the match.

Debananda Araydha’s next attempt — this time from the D box — made possible the only goal for Jorhat in the 45th minute of the match.

Charaideo’s Dambarudhar Chetia and Bipul Khemtai scored the fifth and sixth goal s in the 84th and 86th minutes.

Jorhat missed three chances in the first half and two in the second half.

“The Charaideo’s defence was so strong that all these attempts proved futile,” said a source of Koliabor Sports Association.

The next match between Tezpur and Bokakhat at T. Ao Stadium was the most interesting because of the wonderful performance of both the teams. Bokakhat striker Sunil Tanti made a beautiful pass to Prem Nath Tanti who made best use of it to score the first and the only goal for Bokakhat in the 10th minute. Tanti’s next attempt in the 33rd minute failed as the ball touched the goal post.

Tezpur striker Rupom Baglari scored two goals in the 22nd and 77th minutes of the match. Substitute player Dipankar scored the second goal for Tezpur through a penalty shot in the 56th minute of the match.

Compared to Tezpur, Bokakhat team lacked unity even through the individual performances were good.

In the third match at the Kaliabor College playground Hailakandi striker George Poswat scored three goals in the seventh, 30th and 41st minutes. Midfielder Sunil Saikia scored two goals in the 10th and 45th minutes of the match. Karbi Anglong right forward Arnab Doimari and Hailakandi midfielder Devid Malson got yellow cards in the 71st and 77th minutes of the match.

In the last match, Biswanath Chariali striker Dipok Munda scored three goals in the 21st, 29th and 60th minutes. Amrit Baswar scored a goal in the 75th minute. Despite repeated attempts, Titabor failed to earn a single goal today.

Bongaigaon defeated NC Hills 2-1, Baksa defeated Lakhimpur 3-1 and Dergaon defeated Nalbari 7-1 in the three matches on Tuesday.
