AHA hits back

Guwahati, July 17: The Assam Hockey Association today dismissed allegations by the Assam Olympic Association secretary Mukut Medhi that it has not held its general meeting, which was allegedly due.

The association said its general meeting to elect a new executive body was due in 2008 and not in 2007.

Reacting to a report in The Telegraph, AHA secretary Tapan Das said the association had last elected the executive body on January 11, 2004, in Nagaon and the next election was due in January 2008.

He also said Medhi had deputed AOA assistant secretaries Dhonsing Rongpi and Jehirul Haque as observers at the meeting.

Medhi said the associations, which have delayed electing their executive bodies, would not be allowed to attend the AOA general meeting on August 25. He has also named the Cycling Association of Assam and Assam Athletic Association as one of the defaulters.
