National Club lift trophy

Hailakandi, July 17: National Club of Krishnapur won the late Santosh Kumar Roy Memorial Football Championship organised by the Lala Sports Association yesterday.

In the final match played at the playground at Lala in Hailakandi district, National Club defeated New India Club of Lala by a margin of 2-1 goals.

New India took the lead in the 10th minute of the match by the goal of striker Amjad Hussain.

Players of the National Club levelled the scores in the 30th minute. A free kick from Jiyab Uddin of National Club brought the teams on a par.

In the 25th minute of the second half of the match, Zahir Uddin scored the second goal.

The former chairman of the Lala Town Committee, Sambhunath Kangshabanik, gave away the cash awards to the winners and the runners up.

Amjad Hussain received the trophy for the Man of the Series.

Chairman of Hailakandi Municipal Board Ranjit Kumar Saha inaugurated today’s final match.

The match was officiated by Biru Laskar. Binoy Kalita and Rana Paul assisted Laskar.

Challenger meet

Haribasar Club lifted the Challenger Trophy Football Championship organised by Sivshakti Club.

In the final played on Monday at Udharbond in Cachar district, Haribasar Club defeated Tiger Club by a margin of 4-3 via a tiebreaker, reports our correspondent from Hailakandi.

Ajim Uddin, Gaiplung Rongmei, Pappan Ahmed and Alam Uddin scored goals for the Haribasar team.

Dipankar Roy, Khalek Uddin and Nijam Uddin scored goals for the Tiger outfit.

Dipankar Roy was adjudged the Man of the Series.

Gaiplung Rongmei was declared the Man of the Final.

Local leader and social worker Gunesh Prasad Goala gave away the prizes.

Rathai Rongmei officiated the match. Debashis Kanu and Babulal Maal assisted Rongmei.
