Ram autopsy

New Delhi/Guwahati, July 14: A second post-mortem was today performed in Delhi on P.C. Ram, the Northeast head of FCI who was abducted and killed in Assam, on his family’s insistence. The report will be available in a few days.

Assam, police arrested Gobinda Deka and his wife Namoni in whose house Wednesday’s encounter after which Ram was found dead occurred. They were charged with harbouring Ulfa militants.

In-law rape

Muzaffarnagar (PTI): A woman’s father-in-law has been booked for allegedly raping her. Five others, including her brother-in-law, have also been charged, police said. A case of gang rape was filed after she moved court, accusing the police of not lodging her complaint.

NSUI protest

Jaipur (PTI): Activists of the National Students’ Union of India held a protest at Rajasthan University against education minister Vasudev Devnani, who allegedly raised his daughter’s marks during revaluation. The union has demanded a probe.

Cheque row

Nagpur: Maharashtra has suspended the Yavatmal resident deputy collector and a clerk over a case relating to a bounced cheque from the account of the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. A showcause notice has been issued to then district collector.

Varsity logo

Santiniketan: Visva-Bharati is planning to introduce a second logo, which will feature Rabindranath Tagore with Mahatma Gandhi and Gautama Buddha. The existing logo, introduced in 1921, was designed by artist Nandalal Basu and has a lotus and a swastika. “Kalabhavan will design the new logo,” said vice-chancellor Rajat Kanta Ray.

Jawans held

Bikaner (PTI): Three drunk soldiers were arrested by the Railway Police Force for allegedly heckling personnel on the Jammu-Ahmedabad Express on Friday. The jawans of 26 Rajput Regiment and 28 Rajput Regiment allegedly drank liquor despite requests from the RPF personnel, sources said.
