A new business school,
SMOT (not an acronym), with its headquarters in Chennai,
announced its first postgraduate programme in Calcutta on
July 2, 2007. “We will equip our students to face the industry’s
challenges,” said R. Narasimhan, director of SMOT. “There
is a demand for skilled people in the booming IT sector
and we will cater to that,” he said. The institute will
start classes from September, 2007. SMOT has tied up with
Canadian Association of Management Consultants and St Mary’s
University, Canada, and plans to admit 120 students in each
campus. “We are offering a 16-month postgraduate course,
and plan to start three more courses,” said Narasimhan.
There are plans to set up branches in Bangalore and Dubai,
he added.
