Ranchi, July 9: City thoroughfares would soon get swanky traffic kiosks with marble cladding on the sides and floor. The posts would also offer space for awareness messages and commercial advertisements.
As part of a blueprint drawn by Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), guard rails would also be set up on existing road dividers to provide safety to commuters as well as for aesthetic pleasure to the eyes.
The upper end of the 10ftx5ft rectangular posts would have a 5ftx1ft spaces to display awareness messages, while 5ftx4ft spaces for commercial advertisements would be available on all four sides.
Six-foot-tall guard rails would be set up on all major roads, including MG Road (Radium Chowk to Rajendra Chowk and Mecon junction to Birsa Chowk), Ratu Road junction to Piska More, Purulia Road (Dangra Toli Chowk to Karam Toli Chowk) and Harmu Bypass Road (Ratu Road junction to Harmu river bridge).
RMC administrator Vinay Kumar Choubey told The Telegraph that the civic body wants to develop and maintain the traffic police posts and guard rails on a public-private partnership basis to avoid spending on the project.
Tenders have already been invited from reputed agencies/firms with prior experience in executing similar projects.
Interested parties would have to submit their expression of interest by July 20. The technical bids would be opened the same evening. RMC would also get a concession from the firm that wins the bid this month.
Sources said the initial lease would remain in force for five years and the same might be renewed for another five years based on the maintenance of the posts.
Under the tentative agreement to be signed, private parties would develop these posts against outdoor advertising rights.
As per the expected agreement, the firm would ensure that the posts are painted at regular intervals. It would also bear the expenses arising out of any damage to the traffic posts.
