Sania up two slots

New Delhi: Sania Mirza, despite not having had a great build-up to Wimbledon, has moved up a couple of rungs in both singles and doubles rankings.

According to the WTA list issued on Monday, the Indian ace is now No. 44 in singles and 40 in doubles.

The 20-year-old Hyderabad girl will seek to improve her numbers even further at the grasscourt Grand Slam which got underway on Monday. Sania opens her campaign against Russian Yaroslava Shvedova.

Sania will be teaming up with Israeli Shahar Peer in women’s doubles and compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi in mixed. There was no change in the top six in both the men’s and women’s lists.

In men’s doubles, Leander Paes dropped one place to ninth, while Bhupathi remained at 20th. Paes and Czech Martin Damm have been seeded No. 5 at Wimbledon. The pair finished runners-up at last week’s Ordina Open.
