Fit or not fit is the question

The excitement among Naga youths was palpable. A crowd watched with avid interest as hundreds of youths underwent fitness tests for recruitment by the Indian Army at Zunheboto. Tests for recruitment were also held at Mokokchung, Mon, Longleng and Tuensang.

The Army Recruitment Organisation conducted the recruitment drive. It ended with a written test held simultaneously for all selected candidates of Tuensang, Longleng, Mon, Mokokchung and Zunheboto districts.

A number of civil officials, including deputy commissioner of Zunheboto Daniel Longchar, flagged off the recruitment drive in front of a large gathering of onlookers of approximately 2,000 people as well as around 600 prospective candidates.

The infectious enthusiasm of the youths of Nagaland to serve their country clearly indicated their desire to join the mainstream, an army official said on the occasion.

Musical nite

Assam Rifles sponsored a musical nite at Tuensang Town Hall on June 19 with an aim to foster the spirit of bonhomie and provide a platform to the younger generation .

Nearly 500 people flocked to the venue to enjoy the soiree. Col Rajeev Panwar, commandant, 12 Assam Rifles and Sujomong Sangtam, commandant, 3 Nagaland Armed Police were present on the occasion.

Apart from the 12 Assam Rifles jazz band and the band of 3 Nagaland Armed Police, a host of budding artistes left the audience spellbound.

New school

The army handed over a school building constructed for Shankar Dev Shishu Vidyalaya at Mission Chariali, Tezpur, under Operation Sadbhavana to the school authorities.

The project comprises two new classrooms with a verandah, along with the requisite electrical fittings and blackboards, swings for a children’s park, a borewell with water storage facility and chain link fencing all around the school. It was executed by 105 Engineer Regiment in two months.

Neeru Chhabra, president of the Army Wives’ Welfare Association, Gajraj Corps, handed over the assets to the school management committee in a ceremony held on June 16 at the school premises.
