‘Heroin’ haul

Muzaffarnagar, June 16 (PTI): Police today seized a powder which they thought was heroin worth Rs 1 crore. It turned out to be washing powder.

a tip-off, the police intercepted a car and arrested three alleged drug traffickers. But after the narcotics test revealed washing powder, the cops cancelled the news conference to announce the “drug” haul.

Blast injury

Amritsar (PTI): Four persons were injured when a crude bomb exploded at an army dumping ground on Saturday. The Military Engineering Service labourers were working in the area.

Map trouble

New Delhi (PTI): The website of the six-nation Champions Challenge features a distorted map of India, which is scheduled to take part in the hockey tournament in Boom, Belgium. The map shows Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as part of Pakistan and also distorts the outlines of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. The tournament will be held from June 23 to July 1.

Tiger death

Dehra Dun (PTI): A tiger cub was washed away in the Dhela river the Corbett reserve, forest officials said. Two elephants also died after falling from a hilltop in the park. Incessant rain over the last two days caused the deaths, they said.

Flights return

Calcutta: An Indian flight to Aizwal and two Air Deccan flights to Silchar and Aizwal returned to Calcutta on Saturday after they could not land because of bad weather. Airline officials said while the Indian flight would leave on Sunday, the others have been cancelled.

Maninder

New Delhi (PTI): Former cricketer Maninder Singh was discharged from a Delhi hospital on Saturday, a week after he was admitted with cuts on his wrists. Maninder, who was arrested on May 22 after he was allegedly found with 1.5 gm cocaine, is out on bail.
