Colleges miss date for UGC autonomy

Ranchi, June 5: Two reputed institutes — Ranchi Women’s College and Co-operative College, Jamshedpur, — are likely to miss the autonomy from University Grants Commission (UGC).

Till date only four colleges —Ranchi College, Marwari College, Jamshedpur Women’s College, Graduate School for Women — have submitted their forms seeking autonomy.

The last date to submit the filled application was May 30.

However, Ranchi University vice-chancellor A.A. Khan said: “We received the complete application form of Cooperative College on May 30, which was too late to be sent to the UGC. While Ranchi Women’s College failed to comply with the order for submitting the proforma to initiate the process for autonomy, for which I am unable to give any reason.”

Khan added that he is going to look into the matter as to why RWC failed to comply with the university rule.

A.N. Ojha, principal of Cooperative College, Jamshedpur, said that they had already submitted the performa to the university. “I do not exactly remember the date but it was sent either on May 29 or May 30.”

Principal of Marwari College Javed Ahmed said only four colleges had sent their list for autonomy so far.

“I submitted the list of four colleges, which have got NAAC accreditation B++, though I had taken the performa of six colleges to be submitted to the UGC,” the principal said.

Under the Ranchi University, six colleges had been selected for autonomy on the basis of NAAC accreditation. Marwari College, Ranchi College and Ranchi Women’s College were given the nod this year, while from Jamshedpur Women’s College, Graduate School for Women and Cooperative College were asked to submit the performa.

The three city colleges would take NOC from Ranchi University and HRD department tomorrow. Thereafter, the university would send the filled performa of each college as prepared by UGC. The UGC would then send inspection team to study the colleges’ infrastructure.
