Jamshedpur, June 5: A 20-year-old mentally-challenged girl was allegedly kidnapped from Cheshire Home with an intention to have physical relation late last night.
Fortunately, the girl, Rajnee Mandal (name changed on request), was recovered by police after a massive search in the area following an information from the caretaker of the home. The girl was found standing alone at a lonely place about a km from the home.
Superintendent of police Pankaj Kumar Darad, who inspected the spot, said the girl had been kidnapped from the home sometime late last night by cutting the iron rod of the room’s window in which she was put.
“Initially, the staff at Cheshire Home tried to locate the girl. When all their efforts went in vain, the police were informed about 11.30 pm following which a manhunt was launched and the girl was recovered,” said Darad.
He added that since the girl is mentally-challenged and not in a condition to give any information about the person who abducted her, police are trying to investigate the case based on some evidence found on the spot. “Prima facie, it appears that someone who had regular access to the campus was behind the abduction because such people will not go anywhere with an unknown person. Since construction is going on there for the past few days, the possibility of someone from the construction company involved in the crime is very high.”
During preliminary investigation it was evident that the abduction was done with an intention to have physical relation with the victim.
“We have sent the girl for medical examination by experts at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital to find if the adductor had managed to establish physical relation with her or not,” said Darad.
He said that a case of abduction with intention to have physical relation has been lodged at the local police station and investigation is on to arrest the person involved in the crime.
Sources at the home said that this was probably the third time when someone has tried to enter the campus in the past two months.
