Imphal, May 27: Four persons, including two minor boys, died when their boat capsized during a picnic on Loukoipat lake in Manipur’s Bishnupur district this afternoon.

The victims were identified as Keisham Ongbi Lata Devi, 38, her eight-year-old son Berlin Singh and his cousin Ronaldo Singh, also eight. The three were residents of Yairipok Bishnunaha in Thoubal district.

Boatman Khaidem Kumar Singh of Bishnupur also died in the incident.

According to reports, altogether 16 people were out on a ride in two wooden boats, when the boats capsized following strong gusts of wind. Four persons drowned, while army personnel from the nearby post rescued the rest.

Another woman, identified as Heisnam Prema, was admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.

All the bodies have been recovered.
