Security beef-up for CJ safety

Ranchi, May 18: The city would virtually turn into a fort tomorrow as Chief Justice of India (CJI) K.G. Balakrishnan would be here to inaugurate the first legal aid clinic and law library at Tamar, around 50 km from here.

Accompanied by Justice Ashok Bhan and Justice V.S. Sirpurkar of the Supreme Court, the CJI would also open a mediation centre on the Jharkhand High Court premises.

Sources said over 500 Special Task Force (STF), Rapid Armed Police (RAP) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel would be pressed into service.

Apart from STF, RAP and CRPF jawan and district police, sources added that about 200 new recruits have been summoned from Padma Camp, Hazaribagh, to assist the police forces. Chowkidars, sources said, would also be deployed on different culverts on the road connecting the city with Tamar.

“All the forces will be under 32 magistrates. They will be deployed at different locations. Additional district magistrate (law and order) Paramjeet Kaur has already released deputation order to maintain proper vigil on the city and its outskirts,” said district public relation officer Mukul Lakra.

Traffic police superintendent Daddanjee Sarma said about 25 traffic constables would be spared for the programme of the Chief Justice at Tamar. These constables, Sarma added, would be taken from the team deputed at different squares of the city.

Police sources said proper security arrangements had been near Raisa river. It would be under the security cover of CRPF jawans.

“Adequate arrangements have been made at Tamar to hold the three-hour-long programme, as the place happens to be under the grip of extremists,” sources added.

Sources at the district collectorate said the Chief Justice would arrive here around 12.35 pm by a service plane.

“The Chief Justice will be under Z-plus security cover. Deputy commissioner, senior superintendent of police and other senior police officers will keep track on his movements. A pilot vehicle equipped with siren and wireless set will lead the cavalcade of the Chief Justice,” the sources added.
