Ranchi, May 14: The largest constituent of the UPA in the state, the JMM, today came out to condemn the performance of the UPA government in the state.
Earlier, the Congress, supporting the government from outside, had been critical in public. But now with the JMM, which has three ministers in the government including a deputy chief minister, the public outcry has assumed an added significance.
Accusing the government of having failed to provide good governance in the state, the JMM central committee said fall of the government is “inevitable” unless the government pays attention to vital issues and ministers improve their “work culture”.
A resolution adopted by the panel, which met over the week-end, read: “JMM is unhappy with the performance of the Koda government. This government (has) failed to address the basic problems of the people, one of the principles of its formation.”
Pointing to “loot of public money”, the harsh resolution accuses the ministers of indulging in publicity stunts, gimmicks and making false and lofty promises.
JMM MP Hemlal Murmu today confessed that the future of the UPA government is uncertain. He would not directly say that the party could pull out of the government or withdraw its support. But he added that the government would fall on its own.
The three JMM ministers, who were present at the meeting, were severely criticised and members pulled them up for tarnishing the image of the party.
Neither the common minimum programme has been finalised during the past eight months of this government, Murmu said while briefing the media, nor has the government finalised the relief and rehabilitation policy.
The public criticism of the government is believed to have the blessings of the incarcerated party chief, Shibu Soren.
Asked specifically to comment on the performance of the three JMM ministers, Murmu insisted that the party is unhappy about “all the ministers”.
The JMM central committee directed the three JMM ministers to devote at least three hours, once a week, at the party headquarters to hear and redress grievances of JMM workers and common people.
They have also been directed to regularly visit the districts and have meetings with district party committees to strengthen the organisation.
