Maimed body found

Malda, May 11: The decomposed and dismembered body of Nikhil Mondal, missing for the past 10 days, was found in a sugarcane field near his house at Jagadishpur village in Englishbazar this afternoon.

Villagers who found the body noticed that one hand and one leg was missing.

Police officials said it is still not clear whether Nikhil, who was mentally unstable, was murdered or he committed suicide. “His hand and leg might have been devoured by dogs or foxes,” said investigating officer Rasomay Pal.


Cop camp hit

Siliguri: A CRPF group centre at Kawakhali, around 5km from here, near the third Mahananda Bridge, was devastated in a thunderstorm on Thursday night. Sanjiv Sharma, the assistant commandant of the centre, said nearly 40 tents were blown away and several electricity polls uprooted. One cadet was injured.


Customs haul

Siliguri: Customs officials from the preventive wing in Calcutta seized 11 trucks loaded with betel-nuts from Nepal worth Rs 50 lakh near Raninagar BSF camp on the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri road on Thursday. Three persons have been arrested.


Drug arrest

Siliguri: Pradip Pal, a drug-peddler from Vidyachakra Colony here was arrested on Thursday following a tip off by Shabana Begum, one of his cohorts, who was caught the previous day.


Civic drive

Siliguri: Civic officials demolished an illegally constructed portion of a building on Burdwan Road on Friday as part of an ongoing drive.
