Senairam sail into semifinal

Dibrugarh, May 11: Senairam Higher Secondary School will take on Hindi English High School in the first semifinal of the late Tepuram Buragohain and Puneswari Devi Buragohain memorial Tinsukia district inter-school (under-14) cricket tournament on Monday.

The second semifinal will see A-New High School pitted against Hindustani Kendriya Vidyalaya the next day.

In the last quarterfinal at the Tinsukia District Sports Association ground today, the Senairam boys beat Tinsukia Academic House by 67 runs.

In the 18-over-a-side match, Senairam won the toss and decided to bat first. The team scored 133, losing seven wickets. Number six batsman Bidyut Bora was the topscorer with an unbeaten 27. For the opponents, Pawan Yadav took three wickets, while Amir Khan captured two.

The Tinsukia side was bundled out for 66, losing nine wickets in 16 overs. Injured Pawan Yadav could not bat. None of the batsmen reached double figures. For Senairam, Rabiul Hussain notched four, while Paragmoni Bora and Abhinash Das took two each.

Earlier, in an under-17 match, St Stephan’s High School reached the quarterfinals of the meet, defeating Tinsukia Uccha Madhyamik Vidyalaya by 25 runs. Rain forced the match to be reduced to 15 overs a side.

Winning the toss, St Stephan’s batted first to pile up 135 for five in the stipulated overs. Opener Rintu Kalita was the star performer with 56 off 33 balls. For the opponents, Md Ali took two wickets.

Tinsukia Uccha Madhyamik could only manage 110, losing eight wickets. Santosh Prasad was the topscorer with 20. For St Stephan’s, Amlan Bhattacharjee captured a couple of wickets.
