Lawyer suicide

Howrah, May 5: A woman lawyer believed to be suffering from depression hung herself from the ceiling fan in her house last night.

Monalisa Chatterjee, 28, was an advocate in the Howrah court. Howrah Bar Association members said the “ambitious” mother of a two-year-old was torn between her home and career.

Dacoits held

Calcutta: The arrest of 11 dacoits has helped police solve two cases of jewellery theft. Armed dacoits had raided a jewellery shop in Sinthi last December and fled with gold jewellery weighing over 600 gm. A month later, gold merchant Sudip Bose was shot and robbed of 14 gold chains at Dum Dum Metro station.

School row

Calcutta: Students and teachers of Ramkrishna Upanibesh Vivekananda Vidyapith in Jadavpur accused its secretary and some “outsiders” of heckling them on Saturday. The secretary and the school’s headmistress are locked in a dispute over authority.
