Calcutta/Singur May 5: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will construct a road connecting Durgapur Expressway and the Tata Motors small car plant in Singur, about 45 km from Calcutta.

The decision was taken after NHAI chairman Pradip Kumar met chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at Writers’ Buildings this morning. Industry minister Nirupam Sen and secretary Sabyasachi Sen were also present.

People’s opposition to land acquisition for the expansion of national highways 34 and 35 were also discussed at the meeting.

The chief minister told Kumar that he has asked the ministers concerned to address the problem.
