Fighting free of drugs
Assam Rifles is now lending a helping hand to drug addicts, encouraging them to kick the
addiction. Maj. Gen. K.S. Sethi, inspector-general Assam Rifles (North), on Tuesday led 26 Assam Rifles in
organising a de-addiction workshop in Kohima with the aim of creating awareness among the residents of the area.
Inaugurating the three-day workshop, Gen. Sethi expressed concern at the growing rate of addiction to alcohol and drugs among the youths of Nagaland.
The general urged that the workshop be given widespread publicity so that a majority of youths can avail of the benefits of the programme.
The three-day workshop on de-addiction through self-empowerment is being organised by Brahma Kumaris Academy, Mount Abu, Rajasthan.
Guest lecturers flew down from Delhi, Mumbai and Rajasthan to address the workshop. The dignitaries included a de-addiction specialist and Sqn Ldr (retd) B.K. Ashok, founder of the B.K. Academy.
Sources in Assam Rifles revealed that the paramilitary force has taken the initiative to set up a Meditation Centre in Kohima, It was formally inaugurated by Gen. Sethi on Thursday.
The centre will ensure continuity of treatment and monitoring of patients, along with free distribution of medicines. Meditation classes will be held on a regular basis to fight stress and addiction problems.
Marathon win
Maj. Gen. Vinod Nayanar, GOC, 101 Area, felicitated the cross-country team of the Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong, at a function held at HQ 101 Area on Thursday. The cross-country team won the 50-km relay marathon organised by the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society in collaboration with the office of the deputy commissioner, East Khasi Hills district, on April 28. The Assam Regimental Centre came first among 43 teams, which included teams from CRPF, BSF, Assam Rifles and clubs, schools and colleges of Meghalaya.
Gen. Nayanar complimented the team on their convincing victory.
School visit
Students of Happy Heart School, Bethal, Manipur recently visited Army School Tezpur as part of the National Integration programme.
The tour was aimed at providing tribal students, coming from remote areas of Manipur, with an insight into the various facets of the nation and the armed forces.
Accompanied by their three teachers, the 43 students were received by the principal of Army School, Tezpur.
They were taken for a tour of the science and computer laboratories as well as the library.
In his welcome address Brig. R.K. Dham, Station Commander, Station Headquarters, Tezpur, urged the children to realise their latent talents and motivated them to join the army.
