Second campus on anvil
- XIMB officials plan a sprawling 20-acre area

Bhubaneswar, April 24: Eastern India’s one of the premier business schools — Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, (XIMB) — is planning a second campus in the state.

The 20-year-old institute plans to build and operate the second campus from 2012 to coincide with its silver jubilee celebrations.

“We have a plan to open a second campus in the state. We will duplicate similar state-of-the-art facilities that we have here in the new campus,” said E. Abraham, director of the business school.

The present campus of the institute has been built on a sprawling over 20 acres of land. Though Abraham did not disclose the location, XIMB sources said the institute is already scouting for a large patch of land, about 100 acre on the outskirts of the city.

“Talks are on with the owners, but the deal is yet to be finalised,” said XIMB sources.

The institute, which enrols 120 students per batch in the postgraduate programme in business management, 60 per batch for rural management programme and another 60 per batch in the three year part-time programme, has already applied to All India Council of Technical Education for the extra seats.

This year, XIMB claimed to have secured 100 per cent placement with the highest salary of Rs 12.75 lakh per annum at the national level and $85,000 at the international level.

“The average salary was about Rs 8.75 lakh per annum and each student had an average of over two-and-a-half jobs to choose from,” he said.

Kapur, a final year student, bagged the lucrative international placement offer at Singapore from Olam International, an international trading house.

“There is a strong likelihood of some of these students becoming an entrepreneur in the near future.” is all that the director offered.

The institute upped its fees for full-time postgraduate programmes to Rs 4.35 lakh this year from 3.96 lakh earlier.

“We have marginally raised the fee this year as we do every year to improve the infrastructure facilities. Our decision of raising fees is in no way guided by the IIMs,” Abraham added.

Pointing out that XIMB has been constantly rated among the best 10 B-schools in the country, Abraham said they would like to maintain the high quality of education while doubling the intake.

The director also said they would “strive to have newer programmes once the new campus comes up.”
