Negi slips from top

Malmo: GM Parimarjan Negi conceded the lead after losing to second seed Dutchman GM Erwin L’Ami in the third round of the Sigeman and Co. International chess meet.

Negi, who accepted L’Ami’s pawn gambit in the Catalan opening, resigned the game after 67 moves.

Top seeded GM Ivan Cheparinov of Bulgaria was held to a draw by IM Pontus Carlsson of Sweden. Cheparinov now shares the lead with Swedish GMs Hillarp Persson and Berg and Greek GM Kotronias.

Persson and Kotronias drew their games against IM Hermansson and GM Jan Timman,and Berg joined tem by beating GM Hector. (PTI)
