Petition protest
New Delhi, April 6 (PTI): Justice Markandeya Katju of the Supreme Court, whose observation that the corrupt should be hanged from the lamp post created a stir, has said he will protest against judges entertaining matters which could be addressed at other fora.
I am going to lodge a protest, he said on Thursday. I am sorry, judges must have self- restraint, Katju said, referring to PILs on issues like health, education and elections being entertained by the court.
Girl in well
Bikaner (PTI): A one-and-half-year-old girl fell into a 155-foot-deep borewell in a village and has been trapped inside for hours, police said on Friday. Army, police and fire brigade personnel are trying to rescue her.
Imam FIR
Muzaffarnagar (PTI): An FIR has been lodged against the Shahi Imam of Delhis Jama Masjid for threatening a United Democratic Front worker over the phone, police said. The imams security in-charge has also filed an FIR against unidentified persons for threatening the imam.
Drug arrest
Kathmandu (PTI): Five Indians have been arrested in Parsa district of Nepal for allegedly trying to smuggle marijuana. The five were arrested while trying to cross the border into India. They were carrying 85 kg of the contraband, police said.
Judge homes
New Delhi (PTI): Delhi High Court has expressed disappointment over the way the Centre retracted from its commitment to allot bungalows to the judges of this court. The observation came following a submission which said the urban development ministry was reconsidering the allotment of over 32 bungalows to the judges.
Minor rape
Muzaffarnagar (PTI): A seven-year-old was raped by her 65-year-old neighbour, police said. The girl was alone at home. Mange Ram was caught red-handed and handed over to the police. A case has been registered against him.
