Church plans to review activities

Ranchi, April 3: The Roman Catholic Church would carry out a review of all its activities from the parish to the highest levels in a bid to attune the church to the needs of the society.

At a meeting of the council of priests held at Social Development Centre, Ranchi, Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo today suggested that the church should critically evaluate its activities being carried by various organisations.

He said the review would help in drawing up a perspective plan for the church and its responses to various social and economic issues confronting the people at large.

The cardinal announced that the critical evaluation would be carried out by Auxiliary Bishop Vincent Barwa, who would be assisted by a specialised group.

Sources said the review is an annual exercise carried out by the church to gauge people’s response to the various activities being implemented by it.

The review helps the church to draw up its own strategies in keeping with the changing times.

Support for sister

Voluntary organisations in the state capital today came forward to defend sister V. John, who the JVM functionaries Sushila Hansda and Sufal Marandi are branding as “criminal”.

Members of the voluntary organisations said the politicians are targeting the social worker from Kerala because of their vested interests. According to them, John was organising the residents in Raj Mahal to oppose outsiders from grabbing their traditional land.
