SHARP SINGLES

Brian Lara unhappy

St John’s: The West Indies against Australia in the cricket-crazy Caribbean looked like the perfect way to start the World Cup’s Super Eight stage.

Not that you’d guess from the rows of empty seats at Antigua’s Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

“The crowd was very disappointing,” said Lara, who top-scored with 77. “You sit back and think every game that West Indies play you expect a full house.”

ICC step

Kingston: In an ICC move to reduce umpiring errors in the World Cup, the on-field officials are wearing earpieces connected with stump microphones to catch faint edges.

The earpieces allow the umpires to hear faint edges, giving them a better chance of making correct caught behind or lbw decisions.
