Calcutta: Trainer Richard Alford’s horse Get Fresh toppled Mr Darcy and Aristotle, two of the big names in the business, on his way to victory in the Midnight Cowboy Cup, the main event in Tuesday’s card.

The Alfords are emotional about the race, named after the horse who had done the city proud by winning the Indian Turf Invitation Cup when RCTC hosted the event in 1975. The Young Lochinvar son had also won the city’s Derby and Richard was in the saddle on each occasion. Last winter, Richard’s son, Rutherford, had guided Star Magic to victory in the same event. “Today’s win was well-planned,” said Richard.
