Cardiac care for BPL families

Dhanbad, March 25: Good news for critical heart patients living below poverty line (BPL).

BM Birla Heart Research Centre in Calcutta, which has a tie-up with the state government, has promised to provide BPL families the best of treatment available at the centre on being admitted.

The expenses will be borne by the state government. For, any person with a critical disease, belonging to the BPL group, is eligible to an amount of Rs 1.5 lakh for his/her treatment allotted by the government.

This amount will be spent for treatment of the heart patient during his/her treatment at the research centre.

This was revealed during a continued medical examination session organised by the hospital which has recently received the President’s award for being the first hospital in India to get the National Accreditation for Board of Hospitals.

Leading doctors of the centre were also present on the occasion. Among them was the renowned cardiologist Manotosh Panja and paediatric cardiologist Shubhendu Mandal. Panja gave valuable information in the “current status of tropical heart disease in India” while Mandal discussed the “clinical recognition of heart disease in children” at the session.

It was the first-ever visit of the cardiologists here. Panja also examined 19 patients with critical cardiac diseases at a clinic organised by Polycare.
