Best bloom in war of roses

Ranchi, March 25: He was declared the king for the day.

Ravi Shankar Sinha, a civil engineer from Ashok Nagar, Ranchi, walked away with the best bloom award today, at the 71st Spring Rose Show of Ranchi Club. Sinha was declared the king for Toro, a large, deep-red rose of American origin that he displayed.

The host club, walked away with nine first-prizes, seven second-prizes, and seven certificates in all, the highest number of awards. This was followed by HEC, and then Raj Bhavan. The president of the Rose Society of Ranchi, Gopal Prasad Sahu, came fourth. An elated Sinha said: “I feel deeply honoured. Gardening has been a passion since childhood and after my house was completed I got into it seriously. But, this is for the first time that I have won any award.”
