Bail blow to OC

Durgapur March 24: A court today rejected the bail petition of former officer-in charge of Katwa police station Debjoyti Saha and sent him to jail custody for a fortnight.

Saha, a 1987-batch sub-inspector with the state police, was arrested on March 10 by the CID from Calcutta on the charge of murdering a college lecturer and Congress activist.

Child raped

Calcutta: Parimal Haldar, 45, was arrested on Saturday from Haltu in Kasba for allegedly raping his 12-year-old neighbour and making her pregnant. A case was registered against Haldar after the girl’s uncle filed a complaint. The girl has been admitted to hospital for medical examination.

Girl suicide

Siliguri: Sutapa Chakraborty, 17, committed suicide on Saturday when she returned home after writing her Class XI higher secondary examination. The student of Siliguri Girls’ High School, who lost her mother to cancer a few months ago, was found hanging from the ceiling of her house.

Dupe held

Calcutta: Nisith Kumar Saha, a resident of Regent Park, has been arrested for cheating people of nearly Rs 50 lakh by posing as an authorised share market agent.
