Drunk held
Ravi Shau, 20, was arrested early on Wednesday after he threw a woman into a canal from a bridge connecting VIP Road to Ultadanga. She could not be traced.The woman was sleeping on a pavement of the bridge when a drunk Ravi was walking down it. He stripped after tripping over the woman and then kicked her and and threw her into the canal. The incident was witnessed by cops posted in a kiosk nearby, but it was too late by the time they ran to the spot.
Flat keys
Urban development minister Asok Bhattacharya on Tuesday handed over keys to 152 flats of Ashabari Apartment in Baishnabghata-Patuli to buyers. The entire estate will accommodate 296 families.
Plea to CM
Stefan H. Lauer, member of the executive board of Lufthansa Airlines, met chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Wednesday and requested him to take up with the civil aviation ministry the issue of daily flights between Calcutta and Frankfurt. The airline, now flying thrice a week from Calcutta, wants to introduce daily flights. But for that, it needs the ministrys consent.
