Fire at IFA office

Calcutta, March 13: A fire broke out in the Indian Football Association’s office on Sooterkin Street in central Calcutta on Tuesday night.

Three fire engines were pressed into service. The cause of the fire and extent of damage was not known immediately.

Institute axe

Calcutta: The high court has directed the West Bengal Primary Education department to ensure that 11 primary teacher training institutes in Murshidabad, Birbhum and Bankura stop functioning. Samsur Alam, a Murshidabad resident, had filed a petition saying the institutes were taking classes without obtaining proper permission.

Hotel student

Durgapur: Probe into the death of Avishek Gourav, 21, has revealed that the final-year student of the National School of Hotel Management apparently committed suicide following a conflict with his family over the girl he loved.

Child raped

Durgapur: A 10-year-old was allegedly raped in Burdwan’s Andal, about 220 km from Calcutta, on Sunday by three teenagers.
