United against cop apathy

Jamshedpur, Feb. 26: Worried about the apathy of the police, who have not been able to trace city industrialist Abhayraj Patel, a delegation of Adityapur Small Industries Association met the superintendent of police (SP), today.

Led by entrepreneur N.K. Singh, the delegation met SP Pankaj Kumar Darad expressing apprehension about the fate of their colleague Patel who has allegedly been kidnapped. The members of the delegation said no ransom call has been made, nor has the victim contacted his family members yet. They urged the SP to expedite the search operation.

Pankaj Kumar Darad told The Telegraph that the victim was heavily in debt.

“Having probed the case, we have established adequate evidence that the man is actually trying to evade his liabilities in the business circle,” Darad said.

Darad said the missing industrialist had met his staff, Asrafilal, at Asansol railway station on February 21 and borrowed Rs 100 from the latter, who was travelling in Danapur Express.

“However, when a case of abduction has been registered, it is our prime duty to trace the victim,” said Darad, adding that the police is working in that direction.

Patel, a resident of Ranikudar area in Kadma, had on January 28 gone to Dhalbhumgarh under Ghatshila on a business trip, but has been traceless ever since.

The victim had reportedly called his wife Sunita mentioning that unidentified persons had abducted him. Sunita had lodged an FIR at the Dhalbhumgarh police station.

“So many days have passed since my husband is missing but there has been no progress in the police investigation,” said Sunita.
