Spree of creativity concludes
- Purchases absent in camp for painters and sculptors

Ranchi, Feb. 25: With empty canvases turning into full-fledged paintings, Palash-07, a 3-day national annual artists’ camp concluded at Ispat Club this evening.

Nearly 30 painters from various parts of the country painted and interacted among themselves and with the visitors. Unfortunately, like previous years, this time also some enquired were made about prices of the paintings though no buyer came forward till this afternoon.

Artists — painters and sculptors — chose topics anging from a street dog to the tsunami.

Sushen Das, the former principal of Kalabhavan in Santiniketan, made a small sculpture of a bird, but the creation could be enlarged into a larger structure if required.

Nanda Dulal Mukherjee, the present principal of Kalabhavan, created his oil on canvas, his second work at the camp, using bold spatula strokes. His topic was the rickety street dog.

Sushovan Adikary, also from Santiniketan, drew attention for his painting on Nepali rice paper pasted on a board. Sharmila Thakur of Ranchi did a flat painting on Radha-Krishna using ornamental, relief style decorations.

Falguni Mukherjee painted female figures with simple Rajasthani style ornamentation Vinode Ranjan and Amitav Mukherjee, both from Ranchi, did good work. Ranjan did an acrylic on canvas that looked like a collage. Amitava had his canvas divided into four, capturing in each of them sequences of the tsunami that had lashed the Indian coasts. Ramanuj Shekhar of Ranchi and Dinesh Diwakar of Patna attempted landscapes of Chhotanagpur.
