Siliguri, Feb. 5: For the first time, the country of Thunder Dragon is going to open its gates to motor-sports.
On Saturday, India and Bhutan will jointly participate in a six-day international car rally, which will be flagged off from Calcutta. State transport minister Subhas Chakraborty will be present there.
To be organised by Bengal Motor Sports Club in association with Automobile Association of Eastern India (AAEI), the rally will be promoted by India-Bhutan Foundation and Bhutan-India Friendship Association.
The main rally will start on Monday from Siliguri from where the cars will pass through Phuentsholling and touch the finishing line at Bhutan Gate in Thimphu, the next day. On February 15, prizes will be given out at a cultural show at Clock Tower in Thimphu.
Siliguri president of the AAEI Shyamal Pal Chowdhury today said an international sports channel would telecast the event on prime time from March 4 to 6, Pal said.
