Instability cause for rebel threat

Jamshedpur, Feb. 4: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a BJP-supported students’ organisation, today blamed the ruling parties, including the BJP, for the spurt in Naxalite activities in the state as well as the country.

Addressing an open session, as part of the outfit’s ongoing regional conference, national president Ram Naresh Singh ascribed the current political instability in Jharkhand as the reason for growth of Naxalite activities in the state.

Singh said: “Jharkhand is the classic case where the Maoists, Islamic fundamentalists and Christian missionaries have joined hands to ruin the state.”

Justifying ABVP’s concern for internal security, Singh pointed out when the entire campus is being used for anti-national activities his organisation cannot remain a mute spectator.

Raising the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators, Singh said, there are about 18,000,000 Bangladeshis living illegally in different parts of the country. “According to government figures, Rs 9,000 crore is being spent annually for their education, health and other needs. This amount could have been easily utilised for the welfare of our own people,” he said.

Asking the people to learn lessons from Nepal, where Maoists have taken over the reigns of power, the ABVP chief said the rebels are slowly expanding their base in the country.
