Zangam up

Guwahati: Zangam Cricket Academy on Thursday booked a final berth in the Parbati Charan Dutta (under-19) cricket meet at Peoli Phukan Stadium in Sivasagar, defeating former champions Jorhat Cricket Coaching Centre by four wickets. Jorhat were all out for 162 in 34.3 overs. Zan-gam reached 166 for six in 31.3 overs. Gipsy Cri-cket Club meet Zang-am Club (A) on Friday.

Chess meet

Guwahati: Indian Oil Corporation’s Guwahati Refinery Division will organise the Rs 30,000 prize-money All Assam Open Chess meet in association with Guwahati Chess Association at the refinery’s Jubilee Hall here from February 7 to 11. Apart from the cash rewards for the top 10 position holders, there will be special prizes for under-13, under-11, under-9 and under-7 age groups.

Marathon

Imphal: The Manipur Marathon 2007, organised by United People’s Front under the aegis of Athletic Association of Manipur, will be held on March 25. The 21-km marathon with the theme ‘Run for your nation, run the Manipur Marathon’ will be flagged off from the historic Kangla Fort. The finishing point is also at Kangla. A cash prize of Rs 10,000 will be awarded to the champion, while the first and second runner-up will bag Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000.
