Fair play to market state as hotspot

Jamshedpur, Jan. 29: Taking a cue from the decrease in visitors to Jharkhand, the state tourism department has decided to market the hotspots here through metropolitan travel agencies.

Jharkhand tourism department plans to approach leading travel agencies during the World Travel Exhibition, scheduled from February 1 in Mumbai.

At the three-day fair, seminars and meetings have been organised with key travel agencies around the world to convince them to include popular destinations here to their list of customised packages. Presentations on the state’s potential in terms of infrastructure and facilities would also be organised at the fair.

Referring to the need to get major travel agents working for the state, tourism department director Deepak Singh said: “We need to rope in big names to design special Jharkhand packages, which would ensure that the state gets an identity alongside the illustrious list of tourism hubs in the country.”

He, along with the department’s secretary and two tour conductors, would be carrying the state’s heritage to Mumbai for promotion.

At the fair, the state tourism department has decided to devote two days to discuss marketing strategies with prominent travel agencies. The inaugural day has been reserved for a presentation portraying a comprehensive view of the state.

Further, the tourism department has compiled films on the picturesque locales here and they would be screened at the exhibition. “There are some celluloid adaptations of the beautiful Betla and Netarhat, which we will screen at the event,” he said.

The director said he is confident of making a positive change by bringing in reputed names to popularise the state.
