Puppy love in show display

Jamshedpur, Jan. 18: Dog lovers of the steel city would witness close to 200 canines display their talent at a twin dog show.

Come January 20 and 21, the 37th and 38th dog show championship would be organised by the Jamshedpur Kennel club in association with Tata Steel. Two separate contests would be held at the same time, judged by a separate panel.

The show has received entries from places including Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta, Lucknow, Secunderabad and Bhubhaneswar, alongside canines from different parts of the state.

To be held at the hockey grounds at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, the highlight of the twin show this year would be the inaugural activity display of the dogs.

The assembled dogs would take part in the march past scheduled at the event, with every dog carrying a tag round its neck to spread the message of love and companionship. They would be followed by the company dogs of Tata Steel and Tata Motors.

“We intend to spread the message of love and being loved through these loyal companions,” said B.K. Sinha, general secretary of the Jamshedpur Kennel Club.

Making their presence felt in the show, for the first time, would be the two rare breeds —French mastiff and Belgian shepherd. The winners at the event would compete for the prestigious “Dog of the Year” award at the national level.

“We had approached the Chennai-based Kennel Club of India for a national show status, keeping in mind this being the centenary year of Tata Steel,” Sinha added.
