Ronak makes early exit

Sixth seed Ronak Manuja of Maharashtra was shown the door by Romanian Andrei Savulescu in 67 minutes 1-6, 3-6 at the ONGC ITF Juniors at the DKS Sports Complex on Monday. In another match, Delhi’s Yuki Bhambri pipped Chattisgarh’s Abhijeet Tiwari 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in 105 minutes.

2-way lead

Shanker Roy and Laltu Chatterjee were in joint lead after the sixth round of the IDBI Capital 42nd State Chess Championship at the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra on Monday. Both are on 5.5 points.

Shanker beat Rupankar Nath while Laltu got the better of Arindam Mukherjee.

Haldia rally

Joginder Jaiswal and Basudeb Ghosh emerged champions in the four-wheeler event of Bengal Motor Sports Club (BMSC)-organised Haldia Utsab Rally. In the two-wheeler category, Mukesh Thakkar and Mohammed Irfan Bhati were the best.

While the winners in the four-wheel category were richer by Rs 50,000, the two-wheeler champions received Rs 20,000.

Total prize money in the event is Rs 1.5 lakh and competitors achieving top five positions in both four and two wheelers are given cash awards.

Athletics

The Office Sports Federation-organised annual athletic meet will be held at the Calcutta University ground from Wednesday.
