What We are Watching

Organised by National School of Drama in association with Paschim Banga Natya Akademi, the nine-day theatre fest features stage troupes from India and abroad.

January 13 — Kannada play Oh... Lear by Mysore-based Rangayan. Directed by C.R. Jambe. At Rabindra Sadan, 6 pm. Ruwanthie de Chickera from Sri Lanka stages English play Checkpoint at 3.30 pm, Sisir Mancha.

January 14 — Kalakshetra Foundation from Chennai presents Rukmini Devi Arundale’s Kannapar Kuravanji. At Rabindra Sadan, 6 pm. Teatr Dada Von Bzdulow from Poland stages Several Witty Observations at 7.30 pm, Sisir Mancha.

January 15 — Hell’s Bells and Furtive Folly, directed by Beatrice Jazzard and Peter Schelling from Switzerland, at Rabindra Sadan, 6 pm. Vismaya from Delhi presents Khol Do at Sisir Mancha, 7.30 pm.

January 16 — Tajrobeh Tehran from Iran presents Joolios Sezar at Rabindra Sadan, 6 pm. Panthoibi Natya Mandir from Imphal will put up Hanglai at Sisir Mancha, 7.30 pm.

January 17 — Theatre Art Unit from Dhaka presents Golapjan at Rabindra Sadan, 6 pm. Geeta Chandran Natya Vriksha presents Kaikeyi at Sisir Mancha from 7.30 pm.

January 18 — Oh Tae Suk from Korea stages Life Cord (picture above) at Rabindra Sadan, 6 pm. Mohit Takalkar from Pune presents Tu at Sisir Mancha at 7.30 pm.

Inspired by Shakespeare’s lost play Cardenio, Jaha Chai... is staged by Nandikar. Written by Prof Sukanta Chaudhuri, the play explores the universal theme of sexual love and jealousy. Directed by Rudraprasad Sengupta and Goutam Halder, Jaha Chai... features Sohini Sengupta Halder, Swatilekha Sengupta, Debshankar Halder, apart from Rudraprasad and Goutam.

Catch it at Academy of Fine Arts, 6 pm. On January 13 and 14.
