Jamshedpur, Dec. 29: In a rerun of a similar strike carried out earlier this month, some unidentified persons have decamped with cellphones worth around Rs 1 lakh from the same Nokia showroom on Bistupur Main Road in the small hours today.
Having broken open the shutter of the shop, the burglars took away 13 hand sets, which had come for servicing, and 50 dummy sets. While the cellphones cost around Rs 97,000, the criminals had also decamped with Rs 3,500 in cash, said the showroom’s owner Ashok Munka, who found the shutter open this morning.
Munka had lodged an FIR with the Bistupur police station in connection with the earlier burglary on December 7, but before the police could find a clue to the gang, the criminals struck again.
Munka added that after the earlier strike, they had resorted to the policy to take away the whole lot of new sets from the shelves after a day’s business and only the ones come for repairing were let remain in the shelves. “Last time, the thieves had broke open the shutter after injuring the night guard. As the guard was not present last night due to his head injury, the thieves looted the valuables again,” he said.
Deputy superintendent of police (police control room) Sangeeta Kumari had visited the shop this morning. Kumari said they were trying to detect the gang by putting the IMEI number of the phones. “We expect the gang will be held shortly,” she added.
