Heathrow hobbled

London/New Delhi, Dec. 21: Thousands of passengers were stranded today after a thick blanket of fog forced many flights to be cancelled at Heathrow at the peak of the holiday season.

British Airways cancelled its domestic flights and many European services out of the airport. More than 600 flights have been called off since Tuesday.

Air-India said its Flight 124 (Mumbai-London-Chicago) was diverted to Paris and then took off for Chicago. 101 Mumbai-London, scheduled to land later in the day, could be diverted to Paris if poor visibility persists. British Airways’s Delhi-London and Mumbai-London evening flights have been delayed.
